FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is skilled nursing at home?
Skilled nursing is medical care that has to be performed or supervised by a licensed nurse, such as wound care, IV therapy, injections, medication management and monitoring of a serious condition. Home health brings that care to the patient's home on a scheduled basis.
How is this different from non-medical home care?
Non-medical caregivers help with companionship, meals and housekeeping. Skilled home health is clinical care ordered by a physician and delivered by licensed nurses and therapists. Many families use both.
Do I need a doctor's order?
Yes. Skilled home health services require a physician's order and a plan of care the physician signs. If you don't have an order yet, contact us and we can reach out to your doctor's office.
Will Medicare or insurance cover it?
Medicare and many private plans cover intermittent skilled nursing at home when a physician certifies it's medically necessary and the patient is homebound. Our office verifies benefits before the first visit and explains what to expect.
How soon can care start?
We schedule the first nurse visit as quickly as orders and insurance allow, and we work with hospital discharge planners so care can begin soon after a patient gets home.
What areas do you serve?
Our office is in Canoga Park, but we are not limited to the West Valley. We serve the entire San Fernando Valley, Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley, Santa Clarita and Valencia, the Westside including Brentwood and Bel Air, and communities across greater Los Angeles.
Who leads patient care at Violet?
Our owner and nursing director, Aida Karamian, RN, BSN, PHN, oversees patient care and sets the clinical standards for every visit.
What should I do in an emergency?
Call 911. Our office is not an emergency service.
